I N T R O D U C I N G : C R E A T I V E S T U D I O S Kinsman Free Public Library was proud to announce the opening of our Creative Studios this year. Our version of a "makerspace", Creative Studios is a collaborative work space inside the Library on the lower level across from the Historical Room. It is for making, learning, exploring and sharing! We offer high-tech to no-tech tools to help you make, create and explore. This space is open to kids, teens, adults, and entrepreneurs and offers a variety of maker equipment including a vinyl cutter, T H E K I N S M A N S C O M E H O M E : S T A T U E D E D I C A T I O N On August 27, 2020, the Kinsman Free Public Library received a donation of a life-size bronze statue depicting Rebecca Kinsman and her son, John Kinsman, that is now prominently displayed in the Library’s outdoor Reading & Wellness Garden as a tribute to Kinsman’s rich history for all to enjoy. After much planning, a dedication ceremony was held on September 29, 2021 to honor this addition to the Library. Live period music was played as guests took their seats before hearing an introduction by Library Director, Kim Garrett. Presentations followed by statue artist Michael Kraus and sculptor Travis Cook (see right top), a presentation on Harriet Taylor Upton by Elizabeth C. Clark, and a portrayal of Elizabeth Hauser by Mary Ann Creatore. The enriching and informative program concluded with the ringing of the original Presbyterian Church bells, donated by Rebecca Kinsman herself. The event was attended by members of Kinsman Free Public Library Board of Trustees past and present (see right bottom) and many interested community members. Libraries are continually adapting to the needs of their community, and Covid-19 has greatly influenced those needs this year. In partnership with the Ohio Department of Health (ODH) libraries across the state, including Kinsman Free Public Library, proudly distributed Covid-19 at home test kits free of charge to members of their communities. Since this voluntary program began with the ODH in March 2021, Ohio's public libraries have distributed more than 2.24 million tests. In the month of C O V I D - 1 9 : F R E E A T H O M E T E S T K I T S December alone, 201 of Ohio’s 251 public library systems distributed more than 645,000 tests. This partnership has helped to get free tests directly into the hands of people who need them!
